Minetta Tavern

Minetta Tavern is located in NYC's Greenwich Village at 113 MacDougal Street.

"T" recommended the Black Label burger 3 weeks ago and in this week's Time Out NY it was voted as one of the best (if not THE best) in NYC so I had to try it. It was $10 more than the "regular" Minetta burger so I expected it to be very good...and it was. The meat was thick, domelike patty, juicy and flavorful, the brioche bun was fresh and light and the onions were sweet. I was a little disappointed with the fries - they were too crunchy...almost like potato sticks instead of fries, but they had good flavor.

Black Label Burger - selection of prime dry-aged beef cuts with caramelized onions and pommes frites $26

I could not pass up dessert - Coconut Layer Cake with crème fraîche pastry cream and toasted shavings $9. It was a generous wedge of cake with big flakes of coconut. The icing was a little too thick and had hardened so when I put my fork in it a large section pulled away from the cake, but the inside was moist.
I washed all this done with a glass of Cidre Bouché brut, etienne dupont, normandy, ‘07 $9.
