This is the first time I have used this blog expressly to complain, but I needed to vent.
Today I was shopping in the Geox store in NYC's Midtown on 34th Street. It was lunchtime, but the store was not busy. I think salespeople should have a certain amount of training. Afterall, they are in the business of "selling" so customer service is important. And Geox merchandise is at a high enough price level that would require more than competent salespeople. Even if this was the first day on the job some things should be just good common sense!
I saw a boot that I liked and I asked a salesperson if he had it in my size. His response was "I'll have to check if we have it." Now this may sound petty, but I know he "has" to check. If he doesn't check then how will he know if my size is available for me? He should have said "Let me check if we have your size." Better yet, he should have said "I'd be happy to check if we have your size." I have never worked in retail, but I do shop frequently and there are certain ways of saying or asking that just sound nicer.
When he returned with the boots he stopped in front of me, but did not hand me the box. I held out my hands and he asked "you want to try them on?" as if this was an unusual request. Now, I don't know about you, but I like to try on shoes before I buy them.
He didn't lead me to the seats to try them on. I had to take the box out of his hand and walk the 15 feet distance because this all seemed very foreign to him. He did follow me though.
I tried on the right foot and held out my hand for the left foot. Again, he was surprised that I wanted to try on BOTH shoes. After I tried on the left shoe and took a few steps I told him I would take the boots. He didn't even smile or acknowledge my decision. Obviously, he doesn't work on commission because sales was not his forte.
Thanks for listening to my rant!
