One of my favorite places for french macarons is a placed called Macarons at 161 West 36th Street in NYC's Garment District. This tiny french cafe predominately features a display case full of macarons, but they also offer very tasty and reasonably priced sandwiches and salads. I have tried several of their sandwiches which were very good (and they are not skimpy on the ingredients).
They have daily sandwich specials in addition to their regular menu. On Mondays it's Duck Rillette with cornichons, lettuce and french light mayonnaise for $8 (pictured here).
The macarons are $1.95 each. Recently I had a coconut and a vanilla. In the past I have tried the white chocolate, violette flower, pistachio, caramel, mandarin, lemon and passon fruit. So far the pistachio is my fav.
And even if you buy just one macaron they carefully wrap it in a clear plastic bag and tie it with a pink ribbon.
Don't be detered by the long lines at lunch time - Macarons (the cafe) has a huge following in this 'hood among the fashionistas.
