Featured in countless tv food shows (thanks Anthony Bourdain) - the Red Hook ball field food vendors draw hundreds of foodies each weekend. This past weekend I was one of those people. There were several very popular vendors - including the Pupusa truck. The line was about 25 people long. I had already tried the Pupusa at the Brooklyn Flea so I settled for the little Ecuadorian empanada cart (not even a full size truck!). The little elderly woman inside fries each empanada to order so it's piping hot when she hands it to you - wrapped in a paper napkin and tucked inside a small brown paper bag.
I tried the carne/meat empanada for $2 (the queso/cheese version is $1.50). It was mostly filled with onions, but there were cubes of beef and 2 whole green olives. The outside crust was very good and not too flaky.
