M. Wells

...is a new restaurant in an old fashion silver train car diner shell located in Queen's Long Island City neighborhood at 21-17 49th Avenue. The chef is from Quebec and puts a gourmet spin on diner food.
Ever since this tiny breakfast/lunch only spot was featured in the NY Times Travel section it has been packed on the weekends. The hostess is overwhelmed, but very sweet and polite.
I started with mint lemonade ($3) and a biscuit with apple butter jam ($4). Then I had the egg souffle with mushroom broth and bonito flakes ($8). It was served in an adorable little dutchy pot and the heat caused the bonito flakes to wave around. The eggs were light and airy - similar to a custard.
Even though it was brunch I had to try the well reviewed foie gras ($10) which was a very generous portion seared and served on top of brioche toast...fabulous.
And then I topped it off with a slice of coconut cream pie ($5) - which was very good.
I will have to return to try their famous egg and sausage muffin sandwich and bone marrow.
