Literally located in the shadow of NYC's Port Authority Bus Terminal across Eighth Avenue at 620 Eighth Avenue is Schnipper's...a bright, shiny, clean quasi-fast food restaurant. They offer the standard fare of hamburgers, hot dogs, fries and milkshakes and also beer, wine, fish tacos and salads.
It's a nice spot for a quick bite if you are coming from/going to the Port Authority.
Today I had the cheeseburger ($5.99), sweet potato fries ($3.99) and a Boylan's orange soda ($2.25). The cashier takes your order and hands you a buzzer. When your food is ready the buzzer goes off and you go up to the counter to collect your meal.
The cheeseburger was tasty and juicy, medium well just as I had ordered it. and the bun was fresh. The sweet potato fries were excellent and served with a sweet sauce, but they were excellent all by themselves.
Schnipper's draws a weekday lunchtime crowd from their upstairs neighbor, The New York Times. And everyone else seems to be a commuter or tourist.
I want to return so I can try a milkshake.
