Le Pain Quotidien may be a Belgium chain, but it does not have that mass food chain feel. It seems more like a European cafe. This location on 40th Street near 6th Avenue is a great place for a quick lunch if you are near Bryant Park. You can take out your lunch and cross the street and sit in the Park or dine inside. One of their trademark features is a large communal table, but they have several smaller tables for those of us who do not want to dine elbow-to-elbow with strangers.
I had the baguette with grilled chicken, arugula, egg and pesto for $7.95. The baguette bread is hearty and chewy. The chicken was tender and thinly sliced.
They also offer salads and wonderful baked goods.
