Eataly

I went back to Eataly located at 200 Fifth Avenue in NYC's Flatiron District for a little dessert. But I was very disappointed.
I tried two that did not tast as good as they looked:
Tortina sbrisolona (almond tart) $4.80 - it was very dry - like eating sawdust.

Torta di Nocciole di Costiglio - hazelnut torte $4.80 - it was soggy and tasteless.

Wafels & Dinges

....this food truck was parked near Astor Place in NYC's Greenwich Village. I tried a waffle cone with vanilla/raspberry swirl ice cream with Nutella ($5). Yummy! The cones tasted fresher (as they are made daily) and were slightly thicker than the waffle cones offered by regular ice cream establishments.

Spot Dessert Bar

...is located at 13 St. Marks Place in NYC's East Village. They serve dessert all day long. What a great concept!

So for lunch I had 3 tapas for $20 (your choice of any 3 seasonal tapas desserts).

I had the following:

- Yuzu Eskimo ($7.50) with strawberries, oreo soil and passionfruit - very citrusy and refreshing

- White Miso Semifredo ($8.50) with olive oil cake, raspberries, candied sesame and crushed walnuts - the cake was dense like sponge cake and I liked the candied sesame

- Butterschot Torchon ($8) with gingered pineapple, macadamia and thai tea whip - all of the flavors were very strong...too strong for me.

Next time I would like to try one of the cupcakes and cookies which looked very good.

The Treats Truck

is usually parked in NYC's Midtown on 38th Street and Fifth Avenue on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Today the Food Network was filming a segment starting at 3pm. Unfortunately, my regular day job prevented me from showing up in time for my 15 seconds of fame on camera. I ran over at 5:10, but the crew was already packing up. I did take the opportunity to try an ice cream cone cupcake (chocolate cake with chocolate frosting) and a caramel cream cookie (cream filling sandwiched between two caramel sugar cookies) - both for $5.25.

I found the cupcake's frosting to be too sweet and the cone was stale.
The cookie was very good and I could really taste the caramel.

And you can pick up a frequent Treats card - buy 10 treats and the 11th is free!

Germany - Post 25

From Munich...

Kaiserschmarrn mit apfel sauce = dessert pancake with raisins and apples served with apple sauce. It's like a Picasso pastry - geometrically deconstructed in different parts, but tasty!

Got Milk Bar?

Momofuku Bakery & Milk Bar is part of the David Chang Momofuku empire and deserves as much praise as his other restuarants.

Previously I have tried the Pork & Egg Bun (pork belly with a deep fried soft poached egg with hoisin sauce, cucumber and scallions) $9.75 and pistachio cake $6.00. Recently I tried the famous Cereal Milk flavored soft serve for $4.50. It did taste just like the leftover milk from a bowl of cereal, but it was not as creamy as I had hoped.

I am anxious to return and try the Compost Cookie (pretzels, potato chips, coffee, oats, butterscotch and chocolate chips) $2, Crack Pie (toasted oat crust, gooey butter filling) and Candy Bar Pie (chocolate crust, caramel, peanut butter nougat and pretzels) each $6/slice.
