LA Story - Animal

...is located at 435 N. Fairfax in LA. And as the name suggests this is not a place for vegetarians. It is ironic that this pork centric restaurant is located among old time kosher restaurants.
The simple, minimal room has no decorations. And after dining here I understand that the food is the star and needs nothing to distract the diners.
"L" and I both had a glass of Prosecco ($11/each).
We shared 5 "small" plates:
- grilled octopus bagna cuada ($12): nicely charred and tender
- pig tail "buffalo" style with celery and ranch ($10): crispy on the outside with the distinct buffalo wing flavor/spiciness
- bone marrow with chimichurri and carmelized onions ($8): served with two thick slices of Texas toasat - rich and smooth
- poutine with cheddar and oxtail gravy ($15): this is a great interpretation of the Quebecoise dish of fries with cheese and gravy. The fries were crisp and the oxtail flavorful.
- foie gras biscuit and gravy ($22): a heavenly piece of seared foie gras atop a light and fluffy biscuit topped with maple bacon gravy. Heaven!
And for dessert we were able to squeeze in one more meat dish - Bacon Chocolate Crunch Bar ($7): two slices of rich chocolate layered with a crisp chocolate center and topped with bacon!
I would willingly live on Lipitor if I could eat like this every day!
