Noodle Village

...is located in NYC's Chinatown at 13 Mott Street. There were 2 dozen of us and many dishes so I can only highlight a few...
Steam crab meat soup dumplings (6 for $6.95) - delicate skinned dumplings will hot soup.
Steam rice roll ($2.75) - plain steamed dumpling skin with a peanuty dipping sauce.
Scallion pancake ($2.75) - it really looked like a stuffed crust in a ring shape.
Fried pork dumplings (6 for $5.75).
House special fried rice - excellent rice with shrimp.
Squid & pig skin with curry sauce lo mein hong kong style ($6.50) - the curry and egg noodles were good, but we were disappointed by the pig skin. It was not crisp.
Oxtail with curry sauce lo mein hong kong style ($7.95) - very good with a hearty flavor.
Shrimp wonton, shrimp dumplings, cilantro with black egg dumplings lo mein hong kong style ($7.25) - dumplings were pedestrian.
Seasonal vegetable & mushroom lo mein hong kong style ($6.25) - pretty boring after the previous lo men dishes.
Braised Beef Brisket noodle soup hong kong style (small $6.25) - very tender beef with egg noodles.
Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce ($4.50) - pretty standard.
The food was good, but not outstanding. The service was exceptionally speedy.

The Jamaican Dutchy

This food cart is located in NYC's midtown on 51st Street near Seventh Avenue.
They were out of breadfruit so I settled for a mini meal of curry chicken served with rice & peas, plaintains and steamed vegetables ($5). It was okay, but the rice was a little dry and the veggies tasteless.

Curry Chocolate

Vosges offers chocolate bars in several flavors. Thanks "M" for suggesting this bar...Naga with sweet Indian curry and coconut flakes. The curry was slightly spicy, but not overpowering.

Le Colonial

This restaurant has been around for many years located in NYC's Midtown area at 149 East 57th Street. The decor is a throwback to colonial French occupied Vietnam with ceiling fans and louvered faux window shutters.

"J" and I went to NYC Restaurant Week and enjoyed a 3 course prix fix dinner for $35. We both started with the shrimp dumpling appetizer in a yummy coconut sauce. "J" had the salmon entree and I had the seafood green curry which was not spicy (as warned by our waiter), but mild and tasted more like coconut. I was a little put off that after the waiter asked us if we wanted a side order of rice that it was a $3.50 charge. How else does one eat curry if not with rice?

Then we shared the only 2 desserts offered on the prixe fix: banana and coconut tapioca pudding (which was more liquid than solid) and assorted sorbet (a scoop of raspberry and coconut). But since we didn't start off our meal with a usual bread basket we made up for it by ordering a 3rd dessert: banana beignet which was a banana in a fried wonton served with ice cream and chocolate sauce.

Although the setting and service was very good this is the type of food you can get at more casual Vietnamese restaurants at a fraction of the price.
